Magazine Advert- Fifth Harmony

The images at hand are drafts in a drawn format the replicate different designs, as we were unsure of exactly we wanted, with annotations surrounding the subject, in order to make reference to what we felt was successful and unsuccessful as a whole.

The first present design is like a trademark template, showing the number 5 big and bold, making them instantly recognisable from a distance. To make this idea refer heavier to our target audience we wanted feminine touches to be applied, with the use of flowers and soft colours to address this factor. The lettering however is bold, but doesn't detract from the overall composition of the piece. The key factor of advertising, has been easily clasped, with indication of release dates, demonstrating promotion as the purpose. The lack of definition in revealing the image of the band or any factors that specifically relates to band other than that it has been released and who by, a very vague idea that also doesn't really draw the eye, a quite bland design that is missing key factors like where to buy the album or any reviews of the album.

Through the creation of the second draft, we considered the aspects and parts of the first draft that were unsuccessful, making a change in order to produce a more well-planned design, as well as, what would link more to our female target audience. A more imagery based design of the band has been our preference in this design, with a simple text to allow the sole focus on the artists in the band. By bordering the 'out now' lettering, standing out more within the design and attracting the audience to look directly at this factor on the page. The success of this design is better compared to the last, allowing the audience to visibly see the artist and know who they are, linking to them on a personal level.

Final Outcome:

Within our final template, we have involved various ideas based upon codes and conventions that specifically fit to the Pop music genre and advertisements within the public eye. We have used various new elements but also a combination of idea that we suggested to be included in our draft designs. We have used a group photo of the band, but with continuity using the same design that is displayed upon the Digipak that we have created. The purple filter, incorporates a touch of femininity that we want to achieve, relating more to our target audience. By sectioning the work, and having the information below, it comes together as one but also shows a separate idea, displaying both elements to be as important as each other, really portraying this split and divide, to what is needed and what will attract the eye of the audience. This resembles a teaser poster, allowing something that the fan base can attach themselves too, and build up towards, keeping them feeling personally involved with the band. The visibility of the song that we have produced the video for being present,  is a really key factor, allowing them to look at this song more compared to the other, a slight trick to draw them particularly to the song. However, like a critic has recommended the song for the fans, therefore they know its a great choice that if they like the band they will really like this song. The appearance of the group shot is great, portraying a band profile atmosphere, the lack of complexity to the clothing, is a idea of them being very normal and not allow fame to control who they are as a person. The high street market style clothing was an approach to link to what our target audience would wear, connecting them further on a even wave length and personal basis.

Digipak Analysis

The generic codes and conventions for a Digipak within a Pop genre, begin with titles and font styles, tending to be large and bold in shape. To create a more dynamic approach, sometimes the name of the record cover or overlaps the image of the artist, working effectively and producing a much more elegant and sophisticated look to pop which has a stereotype of being a little on the cheesy side. With font found among female Digipak they have typography that curls towards the ends of each letter, applying a fancy and feminine touch compared to solid text that is replicating a more masculine feel, reflecting there body structure something they stereotyped for. The photography of the artist allows the viewer to capture an interest in the artist, with the background attracting little focus. Each image itself tends to be different depending on how the artist wants to be portrayed with the likes of Katy Perry having a very sexualised image, however, more sexual image cross-coverage into the R'n'B element. Big, bold colours are highly expected in a Digipak based upon a Pop genre, primary based colours being the key factor of choice, including red, blue and yellow. They mainly include one or two primary colours, having a dominant colour and a assisting one or two colours, however no more than three are recommend as it can cause a clash of colours, being far less effective than one or two colours.

Costume and clothing can vary in use with present and current trend fashion items being used, however, some artists a unique in clothing, having items that are one of  a kind items that have been hand-made for the artist, different to any item that is available on the market. The items of clothing can also assist the image of the artists, generic clothing that they tend to wear. The make-up depends mainly on the artist, the majority however wear, lots of make-up, with false eye lashes and lipstick to finish the look. The lipstick is bold and bright, dominating the final image of the artist in a very provocative area on the face. However, it depends also on there target audience, and the image in which the artist wants to be portrayed. The use of lighting, is bright and bold, illuminating the artist or band, drawing the attention solely to them, the use of minimal setting also assists in the process, with plain backdrops, helping to obtain the focus on the artist in the video. Moreover, the lack of props is a common element, to maintain the focus on the artist, but props that blend subtly against the construct of the body maybe used like sunglasses or in the form of jewellery, but with total relevance to the theme and atmospheric mood that the artist and their music creates.

Examples:

Rita Ora
On the 27th of August 2012, through Roc Nation American music label , Rita released her first debut album Ora, which is her surname, meaning Time in Albanian. The album gained her three consecutive singles reaching the top position. The album also gained success in entering the top 25 within Australia and New Zealand. A year later, the album was certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry for sales of 300,000 copies.

Front Cover-
The image is perfectly displayed, having a retro classic approach being in black and white, the red within the text contrasts against the black and white filter, standing out and making a highly bold statement from the rest of the image. The posture of the pose is very unnatural, a surprised expression on her face, her hair partly covering her face, adds a mystery of hiding keeping areas private, but hiding her face adds a shyness to her personality, a real side of coming through and exposing herself on a personal level to her fans. Her looking at the camera addresses the audience on a personal level, interacting with her fans. The use of jewellery is a key aspect, with a watch and rings on her hands, showing her wealth to the public. However, there is also a big heavy industrial chain hanging over her neck, showing multiple ideas, of being chained down, being stable in life being able to provide for herself or being wrapped up in the world of music unable to escape the trouble she is facing, along with the expression, a grasp for help. When viewing this image I questioned whether she is wearing clothes, a very sexual suggestion but targeting a male audience, with nudity rather than her music itself. The make-up covers the entirety of her face, being particularly  strong upon her eye and lip areas, with smokey eyes, common to the make-up trends during this period of time. The colour on her lips is obvious to be her signature theme and colour of red which she often wears. this red theme is consist throughout continued through the typography. A sexualised colour, an indication for an innuendo, in a subtle and discreet way, for an older audience to recognise but a younger audience to have less idea of this factor.

CD Art-
The visual imagery that is present on the CD, replicates the similarity to a lip smear, and being red links to the artist who is known for wearing red lipstick. However, it could actually be smoke, but being red creates a sense of danger and mystery arising in the artist and the album itself. The CD introduces a key factor being the use of the music labels company logo, clearly addressing who helped produce and release the album. The rebellion of the artist is very much present with the lack of finishing to the letter a's within her name, just displaying that she doesn't need to finish the letter, as she can still be recognised, showing her status.

Middle Contents-
The image at hand demonstrates the artist blowing a kiss, like she is sending love directly to her fans, with the sunglasses adding a relaxed vibe throughout. Although, the eyes are covered could suggest that her eyes are disguised, a sense of keeping a part of her life private and hidden from her fans. The consist theme of black and white, appeals in a monochromatic way and the use of a border links back to the other image throughout, keeping the theme the same in order to reflect continuity. Her extreme image is continued into her jewellery and nail art, being very glamorous, but not something known by someone to be worn on a daily basis. Overall, her image is rather extreme known for Pop stereotypes, with her moulding this forms a almost cliche manner.

Back Cover-
The design is displayed as the notion of the artist, appearing through different imagery of herself in a fragmented way. Demonstrating various points within her music career and shots that have been captured, like different side and personalities that she obtains, and the way fame perceives her as a person. The black and white objective is consistent within this piece as the other segments, bring a whole outcome, leaving the red strong and protruding, but a key factor to her colour scheme. The same context has remained, but more imagery involving a personal element between her and the audience, showing a fun and playful side to her character. Her target audience is very much mid teens to early twenties, with a sexual indication that would not be appropriate for anyone of a younger age. The colour is also heavily based on love, something with someone of an older age would understand in a complex idea. To conclude, the Digipak is well-planned, focusing directly on the artist, and her signature style.

Justin Timberlake-
Released on the 15th March 2013, this was Justin Timberlakes comeback album, with lots of excitement and anticipation from many of his fans. He released the album through RCA Records; 20/20 received very positive feedback, from critics who praised the natural sound of the album, with a significant impact on the pop genre of music. the album within the first week sold, 968,000 copies.

Front Cover-
His look within the cover, is very suave and sophisticated with a suit and bow tie attire. This theme continues into the use of typography, with gold coloured lettering, often related to wealth and expense. A grown up approach, like a sense of maturity compared to the last album he released. The use of the Phoropte, is the piece of equipment used for eye tests reflecting the title of the album, a physical attribute against a metaphorical meaning behind the idea of 20/20, a medical analyse and phrase links to those patients who have perfect vision. Perhaps he has clarity upon life and upon his music, as if he is satisfied with what he has. The title '20/20 experience' like a revolutionary  and memorable album, trying to portray transmit a personal link to his fans. His initials 'JT'  on the cover, highlights his persona and power, with the fact he is instantly identified just from his initials, and with little coverage of his face. moreover, the little visibility of his face is very unique for a pop cover, but comes with great relevance to the title and idea of his album as a whole.  The colour scheme throughout is very monochromatic, classic and elegance with hints of gold in the text and silver in the Phoropte, adding royalty, as well as, a polished finish, final touches to such well-rounded concept which reflects his maturity and appreciation for music.

CD Art-
The CD itself is very classic, looking similar to a traditional form of consuming music, in the style of a vinyl track, appealing to much older audience who like reminiscing about the past. More niche ways of  consuming music such as this are being brought back through popular demand, as well as, this era and style are being regenerated as a indie/hipster vibe. This classic idea suggests that Timberlake is timeless, everyone knows who he is even if they don't know his music that well. The gold and black present the factor of an award, replicating that his work is of an high standard gaining recognition for the music he has produced through his music career.

Middle Contents-
The inside contents has multiple images of the artist, in various shots but remaining in a suit, keeping continuity of the formal look throughout the Digipak. However, a more playful notion has been set in place, with his facial expression varying, smiling towards the camera and photos that suggest that he has been caught off guard, a natural assistance opposing the serious image through the cover of the album. The white and gold keeps a very neutral colour scheme, maintaining the level of class and wealth throughout.

Back Cover-
The back cover obviously continues the theme of the front image, with synergy. Although, this can be easily confused to the image present on the front cover, but the subtle difference of the song titles being typed on the back, justifies that this is actually the back of the cover. A consistent element of gold continues, with the typography remaining to be gold. Keeping the clean feeling of class and expense put into the planning and producing of this album. A futuristic idea, with the name of the album, like he predicting his music career, but referring back to methods before the age of modern technology with the use of the Phoropte, a classic suggestion of him as an artist. The smart use of colour scheme is something that I really need to address within my work, grasping from this that the smallest of detail, really can impact the overall style and feel to the Digipak, making either a successful or awful outcome. A common idea that must be remembered of a Digipak is the inclusion of the music company label which the band  is signed to and who have  funded and produced the album, as he has throughout his work.

Behind The Scenes- Face Pattern Design

Another segment that is involved within the video, used the studio performance technique but with a twist. From the inspiration of the music video, 'Somebody that used to know'. As part the video, paint emerges slowly across the whole composition of the piece, including the naked bodies of the artists within the video. The paint is also re-winded towards to the end of the video, showing the idea of what has been said shall now be silenced, they have said their peace, and what has happened shall now remain within the past, where it belongs. We really liked the fact that the paint symbolises a meaning, but a distraction from the real reason of the situation. The dull colours, represent the emptiness that she has left him with since the breakdown of their relationship. However, as our video is Pop, we used more bright and vibrant colours.

The way we portrayed this idea was by having triangles drawn on the faces of the members who are in the band. We used the same colours as the powder paint to link and relate to each member, keeping continuity and persona to each member present. The triangle interlink to each other like a path flowing around the face of each member. The black backdrop, with the white clothing reflects the classic feel that is also used through the other studio filmed sections. This does support Goodwin's theory, with the relationship between lyrics and the footage at hand. The equipment required mainly consisted of a camera, light, stall and tripod, to capture and solely direct the pure focus on the artist at hand. My part was the filming and arranging the set ready for the band to perform instantly, showing the role of leadership and directing the band in order to grasp them within the shot, and the shot we need to portray our story line.

Behind The Scenes- Paint Throwing & Studio Filming

Our next chapter involved our studio performance and the powder paint throwing segment. These aspects will feature throughout the whole contents of the music video, therefore an important and vital footage to feature through the video. Through both scenes a tripod was included, ensuring that the proportion and levels were correct to both group and single shots. keeping an even distribution throughout, creating a well-balanced shot. Rule of thirds became a law to the video that we applied, keeping the ears, eyes and mouth in line, a common technique in the media trade in order to produce an even balance throughout the contents. We incorporated various shots including close-up imagery, focusing specifically on each artist, giving them each their own persona through the band, coming as one but also known in a individual manner also. Through the notion of the powder paint we decided that each artist should have through own colour, to represent their favourite colour and create a signature effect that relates to each member, like Sia who wears a wig covering her eyes. Later in the video patterns drawn on the face were included, the use of  colour were applied to each member, keeping continuity symbolised throughout, like a trademark for each member, something referred to within Goodwin's Theory.

Within the studio filming the we used black and white backdrops through the various filming sessions involved within the process of creating the music video. Contrasting clothing colours created a classic effect and reflected between the black of the clothing and white of the backdrop, plus vise-versa. Even though the colours through the bands clothing were the same the style of clothing was different, producing individual personalities for each persona through the band. Furthermore, a theme of using a tripod remained to create similar and our best to replicate the same positions as in the studio filming. however, wider and longer shots were required to capture the whole surrounding area and the focus of the paint rather than the band members, but instead their friendship. Again, they are colour coordinated, with white polo shirts and black leggings, keeping the classic approach. The white however grasps the colours, really standing out and catching the vibrant contents of the paint.

The part that I played throughout was the organisation of the settings and the majority of the filming, taking on a lead role to capture the main contents of the film. I found that this responsibility was a lot of pressure, but I felt that I handled it well, grasping very good quality shots that capture the essence and idea of each segment in a well-rounded manner. The tripod assisted steadiness, and with the rule of thirds, helping me to enhance the quality further. Overall, each filming session was a success, and planning was a key factor, making filming more simpler as we knew exactly what we wanted and what the target audience wanted.

Storyline Change

We as a collective have changed the story line with the use of B&Q no longer needed, but instead a different location. This is due to the fact that, in our music video, we have used a concept based idea, with the meaning of friendship, although we now need a narrative based idea and the use of studio work implying a performance segment to the video, using the Goodwin's theory to address the music video and construct a well-rounded and fully established idea which attracts our target audience in a positive way. We decided that we needed to incorporate a relationship between a couple, through a day trip, expressing time that they have spent together, typical for a teenage relationship, following the trends and convention of teenagers, which replicates the typical conducts of what Pop as a genre frequently enforces. The relationship will show love between a female and male protagonist, who will be smitten for each other, glancing and glaring as if they really are in love with each other. The characters will be new people to feature within the video, who haven't been seen in any other segments of the video, composing an easy distinguish against the members who are present in the band.

Strood cinema and restaurant location, withholds various types of restaurants and amusements, being mainly a bowling centre and a cinema. The bowling alley will be our key focus as it contains amusements including slot machines and air hockey, as well as, other types of attractions. These will be the surrounding focus, showing a fun and playful vibe to the such young and energetic teenagers stereo-typically. We will also use the cinema as a suggestion of them watching a film together, a typical date implied upon teenagers. Creating the perfect setting and atmosphere for a classic date. Alongside the location the river Medway is present with various places and buildings being visible in the background of river, like Rochester castle for example. This will bring a great contrast that combine into a formed location and setting for the perfect date. This location is within good travel distance and with the location being in one central location, as well as, close proximity to one another having good background footage against the characters in the foreground. This location also consists of street lighting around the building, generating a well-lit environment if we decide to film in the evening, shaping a more romantic ambience.

The costume choice will follow the trends of fashion, being what is current for fashion itself and a teenage audience fashion conventions. Although, we want something with a small amount of effort, showing a realistic interest in each other, making an effective blossoming romance between the two of them. We will incorporate a collection of shots, establishing romance like close-up shots and wide angle shots to establish the location, setting the scene for the viewing audience. Gazing shots may also be something we consider, with them as a couple gazing across the water with a over-the-shoulder shot watching them, completing the date on a positive note and with a finalised shot, fading out, allowing the audience to make assumptions on where exactly the relationship will end. Overall, this concept will create a well-rounded element to the music video, addressing Goodwin's theory in a more direct manner, composing the most successful music video as we possibly can.

Behind The Scenes- Typewriter (Opening Scene)

For our opening sequence, we made the decision to have the name and title of the band typed in the form of a typewriter. This adds a unique and stylistic look to the overall appearance of the video. This will introduce the band to the audience in a fun and vintage way, displaying a form of typography. By placing the typewriter on top of the light box, this illuminates the typewriter and creates a well-lit atmosphere to capture the shots, making the footage much more visible to the audience. The light also produces a positive ora to the idea of bright light. We decided to use brown parcel paper after experimenting with vast amounts of  papers decorated in patterns, however, on many of the different papers used, we found that it was hard to see the text over the patterns, therefore typing on pattern-less paper was a much visible option. This also remained with the vibe of vintage and perceiving a classic look. The classic feel, incorporates with the classic idea of the footage further on in the video, catching a glimpse of what is to come further in the film; a authentic vintage look and adding to the age displayed in the typewriter itself. We filmed the footage at various shots and angles, testing and experimenting on what was best to grasp the effect and to be able to see the lettering being typed. We found this idea to be very effective, therefore we could incorporate elements of this further in the music video, such as typing lyrical verses matching the lyrics being sung at that present time.

Props And Costumes List

The charts below demonstrate the aspects that need to be included in the Music Video, mainly the costumes and props, knowing who is in charge of bringing theses items to the set when filming, allowing everyone equal responsibility in the group. We have taken many factors in consideration when creating these lists including the weather, therefore coats and umbrella have been written into the list if the weather is a problem on the day of filming. We have chosen clothing that is predominately black/white and grey, due to the latest teen trends. The white is mainly to allow the audience to see the powder paint on the clothing, making a more visible picture and noticeable, instant effect in the image. To conclude, the costume and props list was created in order to allocate who exactly will bring what on the day, sharing the responsibility among the group.

Production Schedule

The table indicates exactly when and where we will be filming, including the actors, props, costumes and equipment needed throughout the whole process. This is the plan that we shall follow throughout filming the music video.

Storyboards

The images at hand, demonstrate the storyboards which been split and divided into post it notes for each shot. Each post it note, displays what will happen in each shot, the length of each shot, the angle of the shot and editing transition that will take place within the music video of that specific shot. Despite, lack of drawings the writing fully describes what shall happen in a brief note form. being short and straight forward to stop any type of confusion. The use of post it notes allows us room to adjust where and when we need, adding or cutting elements out which may become something which we are unable to film for some reason or a shot does not fit within the final ideas we later pursue. When we are filming, we feel that we will try to capture more than one take or various points of view of  shots, giving us the opportunity to find exactly the perfect composition, constructing a well-pieced and polished outcome that fits with the lyrical value rather than what we think, forcing something that doesn't fit well or create the perfect fit to our music video. Overall, we are looking forward to filming, as well as, editing concluding to a final outcome, creating and placing our own stamp on the music video.

Lip Sync Practise

When editing the music over the lips we found it quite hard to match the lyrics to the motion of her lips. When we filming the footage we decided to play the song out loud, this way Natasha is  lip synced perfectly with the song, knowing the lyrics and singing along rather than from memory. In the video, we have used two different locations, seeing the visual differences and what can affect the quality of a video, including elements like lighting. In the video, Natasha actually sang out loud making a more convincing movement and motions being formed on her lips, this also matched more naturally against the lyrics and pace of the song. It was best to use Natasha as she will feature in the music video that we create, giving her chance to practice in front of camera and become very comfortable, this way she will be ready to perform in the actual video when it comes to filming. This technique of her singing along and out loud will defiantly be used when filming, implying a natural feel, syncing with the lyrics perfectly. This will also allow control and synchronise perfectly, adding a convincing look. The use of dancing in the video from Natasha is typical of our band 'Fifth Harmony' incorporating the dancing just increases and heightening the mood and feeling the portray as a band, the dancing adds movement and actually makes the video fun, full of life and character. The dancing shows a part of her personality, the fact the genre is Pop, meaning that movement and dancing is often used, therefore the dancing is very relevant. We found it hard to sync exactly to the lyrics, we found that her lip movements cut too quick before the end of the lyric, instead of elongating the length of the lyrics. She was cutting too quick, which is not obvious at first but when played again and again over time can easily be seen. As the song progressed, Natasha became more confident with her dancing becoming more involved to the track. The fact that she knew the lyrics better also helped with her confidence. In moments, where the lyrics are forgotten it becomes obvious through her facial expressions, making the audience aware and conscious of the fact she has made a mistake. When we perform the real music video we need to ensure that the artists know the song off by heart, this way they will not mess up, and make it seem as if they are singing the song. With nerves it's clear to see that this is what is also causing her to be very shy, but as she is exposed to the camera more she is far more confident and using the camera to her advantage. Overall, in the real music video we will take time for the artists to learn the lyrics, become confident in front of the camera, with trials and practises. We will also take time when filming, and rerecording if necessary to achieve the right length and motion of each lyric sung in the entirety of the song.

Initial Ideas

Through the use of Goodwin's theory we want to include a range of elements across all sections of his theory. In the first part, we wanted to connect the lyrics to the notion of visual effects, for this pastel colours will be used, with each of the characters in the video having a personal colour that represents them including blue, pink and purple. They are still feminine colours that distinguish friendship love and commitment to friends, rather than intimate love between a couple. We are also including other physical references like use of a typewriter in the opening scene, using different and traditional forms of typography to display a modern music video. The use of movements is also used with Morgan, as someone will be standing behind her and be pretending to touch her, matching the lyrics of "touching on my body like you know me", referring to the idea of her being hugged and loved like a friend, with sexual motions or actions to refer to anything different to this idea.

Across the second boundary of his work, we really wanted to address and define pop in its true form, with the use of dancing to really add movement and dance to the mix, being energetic, really showing the idea of youth. Dancing is also very common in a music video and especially a Pop music video, applying the stereotypical conventions of pop. Colour is also a significant idea of the music video, and to pop. Incorporating, a theme and representation of each personality throughout. Each of the colours that have been chosen shows a positive contribution to the friendship group/band. With blue, pink and purple adding friendship, romance and loyalty to each other. Often in Pop music videos, they refer to drugs of alcohol experimentation, but we want ours to be very young teen friendly, addressing the age of our target audience, but solely showing friendships and the positive influences that they inflict on each other.

Inter- textual ideas focus across mainly the editing forms with Zara Larsson's, lush life video being the main contribution of different visual editing techniques, as well as, Bebe Rexha, 'No Broken Hearts'. Including colour overlays, and pop art bursts. We also want each characters to have a unique personality that is only referred to them in the group, like the Spice girls, even though the 90's band they are all still known as an individual name, like posh spice or sport spice, based on their characteristics as a person. From the original video, that which is the song we are using we are taking the studio idea and including the form into our video, linking and showing a freeze frame of what is present in the original video, this way showing them as our inspiration and creating what can be perceived as an extension beyond the ideas they interpret in their music video.

Each representation of the characters is very similar, gaining inspiration from each other in clothing and hairstyle what female teenagers conventionally do in friendship groups, with black showing a professional side and colours interpreting a free and girly feel to the video. The hair styles will be natural and styled in a subtle way, caring about their appearance but showing natural beauty. Their make-up will be the same, matching the same quality and idea of the way the hair is styled. Each of them even though they have different likes and interests will still be confident and energetic, each bouncing off each other in different ways. Bring out the best in each other as friends are supposed to do.

Finally, the true meaning behind the music video is a integration of narrative and performance, a bond in friendship which will be shown in a physical form through colour, the powder paint involving the vibe of each actress and their personality on a physical level, throwing the colours at each other like throwing their opinions and personalities to the world, exposing themselves on an emotional level, really being who they are in front of their friends. They are being honest to the world like they are to each other. To conclude, we want to create a fun and serious scenario, implying life to be great with friends and the support they show in every aspect, when times are challenging and when times are at their best, the true meaning of friendship.

Questionnaire Results And Feedback

Within the stages of research, we needed to really know and address exactly what the target audience want. We decided to create and contract a questionnaire asking questions which are specific to our genre and the stereotypes of teenage girls. However, we also wanted to see what a male audience would perceive in music videos, expanding our audience further. The questions asked relate heavily to our genre and the idea of Music videos, looking at what are key characteristics and elements that they want in their music video. The image below is the questions that we created and formed based on what exactly we wanted to know and what we wanted to target in the music video. The questions we asked varied in type, with open and closed questions, gaining general and personal responses. We handed the questionnaire to 20 people, ranging in ages and gender, grasping a handful of comments in the process.

After collecting the results, I created a chart that combined the results as a whole, looking and collaborating what exactly and specifically our target audience want in a music video. This table I feel that was essential, for questions in which were very open and personal to each individual answering the questionnaire. From this table I applied the closed questions in a excel format, which I then used to create various charts/graphs, analysing the feedback in a professional and simple format.

Question 1.

Question 2.

Question 3.

Question 4.

Question 5.

Question 6.

Question 6 resulted in various thoughts from each person, with their own opinions important in the question. However, reoccurring songs like Ed Sheeran's- Don't and Taylor Swift in the process. The songs that were chosen show to be either current chart songs or traditional songs by big artists like Micheal Jackson. Many of the songs shows a music video that features the artist, with some having unique videos. like Thriller, showing a zombie dance sequence. However, most of the modern videos are very basic with simple story lines that can be easily achieved with any budget.

Question 7.

The videos in which they disliked consisted of annoying songs that were repetitive and very boring. Therefore, we need to create something that is new and fresh to the music scene. Many of the tracks above are by one hit wonder artists like Rebecca Black with Friday. After a while, the songs above are annoying. Overall, these artist don't demonstrate the song or the artist in which we have chosen as our final choice.

Question 8.

Many people responded with many effects being key, having exciting story lines  and elements that catch the audiences attention. They also want something where the music and video sit well as one. Overall, the elements above will tried to be applied to our music video.

Question 9.

Question 10.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, are main target audience is females between the age of 14 and 20 years of age,  the effect will range in the video but mainly target full colour with elements of black and white added to the mix and vintage looks, adding a element of class elegance in the video relating to our band and what specifically the target audience want. The first question addressed our target audience based on their gender, as we are targeting a female audience, it’s important we target them directly. Being biased, in order to achieve the best results. However, the fact the there is a small number of males, means we could also target them in a indirect way, widening our target audience further.  Following on from this: Question 2 looked at what age each person is, with putting categories we could see who actually fits in the target age range what our music video is targeting. The largest age range success is 16-17 years of age, however, those who were over 18 years of age also showed success, meaning that these age brackets are what we need to target. Even though, none of the people asked fell into the 14-15 age category, the idea of the music video will target them more so. The idea of video is friendship, eligible for all of the above ages, targeting 14-15 even though they were not any asked in the questionnaire. This way we will be expanding our target audience beyond what is expected.

Within the third question, we found that Pop and R'n'B were the popular choices, with choices like jazz and country being less popular choices, which was what was expected based on the stereotypes of the age brackets asked. The fact that pop was the popular choice, working well against our band and genre as they are very Pop related. The song itself also is in the Pop genre. The fact we chose something that was pop, generically known to have a high reputation in the field of music. Overall, Pop was a popular chosen choice, and fits perfectly to the song chosen. From the results, the audience preferred solo artists compared to bands, showing no surprise considering the artists who are on the current pop market, like Rihanna, Drake and Adele to name a few. Bands however, where the second choice, therefore, bands are considered but on a second basis. Overall, this means that we need to create something that will stand out and make bands a more popular choice.

The most chosen amount of time for watching music videos, was 0-1 hours, very little time, but a fair amount considering those with a busy lifestyle. However, the 2-3 and 4-5 hours came very close with both gaining 20% of vote by the voting parties. But, over six hours was the second favourite choice, meaning that they either really take time watching music videos or they are far to busy to spend time watching music videos. Our music video needs to be something that applies to both, something that will be re-watched again and again over a long period of time. Question 9, revealed the effects that would be most preferred in a music video, the results showed the classic effects were preferred, something that the audience know and are comfortable with, full colours for them is key, making the image quality perfect and easy to see. Although, the video we will use this as well as, pushing the boundaries with colour overlays and various effects to boost the adventure in the video and create something fun rather than something just bland. Finally, question 10, demonstrated whether a story line or a live performance was what attracts them to a music video, we found that a story line is much preferred and something to watch stimulates the audience more than just looking at a a live performance, interacting with them beyond just something that is hear. Overall, the video will include these aspects, as well as, other elements that we want to add based on what we found in stereotypes of pop and our target audience.
